ABOUT US

Thank you for visiting this site, and please find below the history of our fight to save the former Bristol Zoo Gardens site from development into luxury flats.

In 2022, after 186 years, Bristol Zoological Society closed the world-famous Bristol Zoo in Clifton and revealed plans to apply for planning permission and to sell the site for housing.

These plans were met with huge opposition.  Bristol Zoo Gardens have a special place in the hearts and memories of generations of children and families from across the UK.  They are also home to nationally important collections of plants and an astonishingly rich array of unique and historic trees.

The proposed development would be a shortsighted and tragic end for a precious part of Bristol’s heritage and history.

Save Bristol Gardens Alliance is a group of volunteers with two aims:

  •  to overturn the planning permission by a successful Judicial Review; and

  • to bring forward a commercially viable alternative which preserves the Garden's unique history and incredible biodiversity for future generations.
